High school basketball coach injured in car crash

A South Carolina high school basketball coach was seriously injured in a car accident on March 6. The crash took place in Florence at approximately 7:15 a.m.

According to an officer with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the coach for the East Clarendon High School boys' basketball team was headed south on Salem Road in a 2006 Chrysler when the vehicle was struck by a 2018 Ford Explorer. Apparently, the Ford was traveling east on Burnt Branch Road and ran a stop sign, causing the collision. The coach's wife and son were also in his car at the time of the crash.

As a result of the crash, the coach and one of his passengers were airlifted to McLeod Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford and another occupant of the Chrysler were transported to local hospitals by ambulance. The coach's wife and son were later released from the hospital. The coach has been with East Clarendon for three seasons, leading the team to three straight playoff appearances.

When a car accident is caused by a negligent driver, injured victims may have grounds to take legal action in court. By filing a personal injury claim against the responsible driver, injured victims could be awarded financial compensation for a variety of damages, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. An attorney could attempt to negotiate a settlement with the at-fault motorist's insurance company, but if the amount offered is inadequate, proceeding to court might be advisable.
