Cars collide, victim airlifted to hospital

Georgia residents may have heard about a two-car crash that occurred in Anderson County around 9:40 p.m. on March 22. South Carolina Highway Patrol pinpoint the site of the crash as being on US 29 near Smith Motors Road.

It involved an SUV heading north on US 29 and a car driving south on the same highway. The woman driving the car attempted to make a left-hand turn when the two collided. The force of impact sent the two vehicles several hundred feet off the roadway, and the car wound up in a picnic area.

South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the driver of the car had to be airlifted to an area hospital. Her condition was not made known publicly. As for the SUV driver, he or she reportedly ran away before police arrived at the scene. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

It is after investigations that police are usually able to determine who was at fault for a car accident and to what degree. This, in turn, determines whether victims are eligible for compensation under personal injury law. In Georgia, even those who are partially to blame for a crash may still recover damages although the amount will naturally be reduced.

This is where legal counsel may be beneficial. Victims will likely be left with economic and non-economic losses like vehicle damage, medical bills, lost income and pain and suffering; with a lawyer, they may have a chance to negotiate for a settlement that covers these losses. If the other driver's insurance company refuses to settle out of court, victims may have their lawyer prepare the case for a trial.
