Georgia teen killed in single-car accident

On the afternoon of Jan. 20, two teens were involved in a single-car accident in Coweta County, Georgia. An Infiiniti passenger car was traveling at a high rate of speed on Smokey Road when its teen driver lost control of the vehicle rounding a curve. The vehicle flipped over several times and hit some trees.

Two people were inside of the car at the time of the fatal car crash. Both were trapped inside of the vehicle at the time the rescue team arrived on the scene. A 16-year-old passenger in the car was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Atlanta Medical Center. The condition of the teen driver was unknown as of Jan. 22. Both of the teens were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident and has not released the names of the teens involved in the accident. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team of the Georgia State Patrol has been assigned to investigation.

The parents of the teen killed in the car may be able to sue the parents of the driver if the teen is found to be negligent in causing the crash. Insurance may cover the damages to the family of the deceased teen if the parents of the teen driver properly added the driver to their insurance policy. Personal injury attorneys may recommend that the parents of the deceased teen obtain legal representation as soon as possible since the statute of limitations on some causes of action may start to run immediately beginning with the date of their child's death.
