Adult and 2 children hurt in Georgia crash

On Jan. 14, three people suffered serious injuries in a three-car crash in Georgia. The accident happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. on W. Hwy. 16 southeast of Atlanta.

According to a representative with the Georgia State Patrol, a 2012 Jeep Wrangler was headed west on GA-16 when it rear-ended a 2001 Honda Civic that was stopped in traffic in the westbound lane near Elders Mill Road. The force of the collision forced the Honda into the 2015 Chrysler 200 that was stopped in front of it. The Honda then veered across the eastbound lane of the highway and came to rest in a private parking lot.

An adult and two children, ages 7 and 8, in the Honda were seriously hurt in the crash and transported to the Atlanta Medical Center for emergency treatment. There have been no updates provided on their conditions. The occupants of the other vehicles did not require emergency care. The accident remains under investigation by authorities.

Rear-end collisions are frequently caused by distracted drivers. If a police investigation determines that a driver was texting or engaged in another distracting activity at the time of an accident, he or she could be found financially responsible for a victim's losses in civil court. A personal injury attorney could review a victim's case and help prepare a personal injury lawsuit seeking compensation for damages. If this claim is successful, the victim could be awarded medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and other amounts.
